11th Gen 2022 Civic is Here - Sedan and Hatchback Info / Specs |
Improving on the 10th Generation Civic in Almost Every WayFor the 2022 11th Generation Civic, Honda has opted to significantly improve upon this amazing platform by carrying over the 10th Gen Civic DNA into the 11th Gen Civic. Most everyone can agree that Honda hit a home run with the 10th Gen Civic. It was sporty, fun, comfortable, fuel efficient, and a fantastic value. It also had something for everyone, even the Type R variant for the more hardcore racer types. The 11th Gen Civic continues with this philosophy, further honing what worked and doing away with what didn't. Here's a quick rundown of the new specs and upgrades for the 11th Gen 2022 Civics:
In designing the 11th Generation Civic, Honda stylists and engineers sought to create a car that would be a "breath of fresh air" in the segment by revisiting timeless design concepts of previous generation Civics. They focused on the original Honda design approach of "Man-Maximum, Machine-Minimum" (or "M/M"), which uses technology and design to serve the needs of the driver and passengers. The styling of the 2022 Civic manifests these timeless design concepts in a fresh and exhilarating new way. A "thin and light" body design with a low hood and front fenders, and a low horizontal beltline grounds the body, accentuates the wheels and tires, and enables an expansive, airy greenhouse. Inside, the M/M approach results in a strikingly simple, clean and modern take on classic Civic values. By evoking the uncluttered cabin design of early generations of Civic, the new model's interior features exceptional visibility, intuitive ergonomics, extraordinary passenger volume and driver-focused technology. 11th Gen Civics also use a revised CVT that enhances fuel efficiency through the use of a more robust electric hydraulic pump that reduces the load on the mechanical pump, and a ball bearing secondary shaft to reduce friction. The CVT also has been programmed to provide early downshifts during braking and features revised Step-Shift programming that simulates physical gear changes under hard acceleration for a more familiar and enjoyable driving experience. Fuel efficiency and emissions are notably improved due in part to a new standard idle-stop system (CVT only) and a new catalytic converter design. NOTE: Specific information on the Civic Si and Type R models should follow soon! 11th Gen 2022 Civic Sedan Info / Specs The all-new 2022 Civic Sedan features a sporty exterior, a simple, clean interior, fun-to-drive dynamics, advanced technologies, enhanced safety performance and overall tremendous value. The Honda Civic Sedan will be available in eight exterior colors, three of which are new: Meteorite Gray Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl and all-new Civic-exclusive Morning Mist Blue Metallic. Every 2022 Civic Sedan benefits from extensive improvements to the body, chassis and powertrain, safety technology, interior and exterior design quality, and overall driving refinement. In addition, all 2022 Civics come standard with an expanded Honda Sensing® suite of driver-assistive and safety technology that adds Traffic Jam Assist and a smoother, more natural feeling to functions, such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) and the Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS). A rear seat reminder and rear seatbelt reminder are also new and standard across the lineup. The 2022 Civic LX comes with a naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT). The combination is smooth and responsive, and with 158-horsepower (@ 6,500 RPM, SAE net), it offers the highest standard power output in its class while also netting a 2 MPG (combined) EPA fuel economy rating increase. Also standard is an easy-to-use 7-inch color touchscreen with Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, push-button start, partial digital instrumentation and LED headlights. The 2022 Civic Sport enhances the LX improvements with its own styling flair featuring bespoke 18-inch wheels with low-profile tires, black exterior accents, and a chrome exhaust finisher. Inside, an upgraded 8-speaker audio system, Sport-specific seating surfaces, leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, paddle shifters, sport pedals, and a new Sport driving mode are standard. The 2022 Civic EX includes a more powerful and refined 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine and a CVT that's been retuned for improved response. Now with exhaust-side VTEC®, the engine produces 180 hp (@ 6,000 RPM, SAE net), an increase of 6 hp over last year, and 177 lb-ft of torque (@ 1,700 to 4,500 RPM, SAE net), a gain of 15 lb-ft. Blind-spot information, a one-touch power sliding moonroof, heated seats and outside mirrors, and dual-zone automatic climate control are all standard. The 2022 Civic Touring sits atop the lineup featuring leather seats, power front seats, Sirius XM radio, satellite-based navigation system and more. Even though pricing remains the same as last year, Touring receives a host of new or revised features, including a new, larger 9-inch color touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™ integration, a Civic-first Bose premium sound system, a new 10.2-inch all-digital and customizable instrument display, front and rear parking sensors, Sport driving mode, wireless smartphone charging and LED fog lights. Touring also adds Civic's first implementation of low-speed braking control. 11th Gen 2022 Civic Hatchback Info / Specs The most fun-to-drive Civic Hatchback ever combines striking, Euro-inspired exterior styling and five-door versatility with an even sportier driving experience. Available with a 6-speed manual transmission, the 2022 Honda Civic Hatchback is designed to meet the needs of young, active buyers. It will be built in the U.S. for the first time, with production at Honda's Greensburg, Indiana auto plant. Inspired by the coupe-like profile of European sportbacks, the 2022 Civic Hatchback builds upon the Civic Sedan's new clean and simple exterior design direction in a fresh and exhilarating new way. Civic Hatchback incorporates unique styling cues to give it an even sportier attitude, including a distinctive grille mesh with a slight concave shape. For a sportier coupe-like profile, the Hatchback's rear overhang and overall length are 4.9-inches shorter than the Civic Sedan's. It also promises driving enthusiasts an even more dynamic experience, with ride and handling developed in Europe and an upgraded 6-speed manual transmission available with both the naturally-aspirated 2.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbocharged engines. The 2022 Civic Hatchback includes all of the technological updates made to the 2022 Civic Sedan, including a new standard single-camera Honda Sensing® suite of safety and driver-assistive technologies. Key options include a 9" color touchscreen, Bose premium sound system and a 10.2-inch all-digital instrument display. Reintroduced to the U.S. market with the 10th-generation Civic in 2016, Civic Hatchback has proven itself a breakout hit and has grown to account for more than 20 percent of all Civic sales. With more than 1.7 million units sold in 10th generation form, Civic has been the No. 1 selling vehicle in America - car or light truck - with first-time buyers, Millennials, Gen Z and multicultural customers over the last five years. The 2022 Civic Hatchback's smoother, sleeker roof line is made possible by a new lightweight composite hatch and by moving the hinge mechanism outward, allowing a roof height reduction of 50 mm in the hinge area. A unique taillight design, and center high-mounted stop lamp (CHMSL) that spans nearly the entire width of its hatch, further emphasize Hatchback's wider rear track. For maximum driver enjoyment, the 2022 Civic Hatchback's suspension and steering were developed in Europe and fine-tuned for North America. Civic has long been recognized as the benchmark for sporty handling in the compact class, and this is the most fun-to-drive Civic Hatchback ever. For the 11th Generation, Civic Hatchback offers two engine choices for the first time, and both will be available with a 6-speed manual transmission. LX and Sport grades feature a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter 4-cylinder, producing 158 horsepower @ 6,500 RPM (SAE net) and 138 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 RPM (SAE net). Powering EX-L and Sport Touring trims is a turbocharged 1.5-liter 4-cylinder producing 180 horsepower at 6,000 RPM (SAE net) and 177 lb-ft of torque at 1,700 to 4,500 RPM (SAE net) on 87 octane gasoline. Multiple measures contribute to improved fuel economy ratings, including new more efficient turbo plumbing and the addition of Variable Timing and lift Electronic Control (VTEC®) to the exhaust valves. A new 6-speed manual transmission is available in Sport and Sport Touring grades. The transmission has been revised for an even sportier feel with improved shift rigidity and shorter shift throws. A new dual-mass flywheel helps reduce noise and vibration transmitted through the drivetrain. Eight colors are available on the 2022 Civic Hatchback, including two new hues: Boost Blue Pearl and Smokey Mauve Pearl. All the above images from hondanews.com © American Honda Motor Co., Inc.
